Design changes, multiple landowners and the transfer of three IDNO substation deeds meant we had our work cut out to secure the path to connection for a new Staffordshire housing development.

Our brief
A new development of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes was being planned as part of a regeneration project in Staffordshire town of Burton upon Trent. We were asked to secure three IDNO substations and associated cabling for the site, working with an ICP with whom we have a long-standing relationship.

Challenges
Several landowners’ solicitors were involved in the substations transfer process across the entirety of the site. From raising enquiries, to chasing replies and satisfying all title queries before the connection could be secured, this had the potential to cause delays to the project timeline.

Added to this, a number of design amends were experienced during the course of the legal process, and on each occasion, these needed to be reviewed by our team, the legal plan updated and issued to all parties for approval.

Delivery
The efficiency and experience of our team was key to the successful delivery of this project.

Often when there are multiple parties involved in an agreement who don’t stand to benefit from the connection, it can be challenging to keep a project on track. With this in mind, our team worked proactively to engage all parties, communicating information throughout the project to ensure all deadlines were met.

And thanks to our inhouse CAD team, we were able to keep legal plans efficiently updated each time a change was made to the connection design, ultimately helping to secure a timely completion for our client.
