National Apprenticeship Week 2021

CLM’s Brand & Communications Manager, Victoria Magnall, joined the fascinating webinar ‘So long 2020, it’s time to build a better normal’ where Investors in People’s CEO Paul Devoy, People & OD Lead Beth Samson and Director of the London Progression Collaboration Anna Ambrose discussed how we can all play our part to build a better normal.

Specifically, this panel discussed the impact that investing in young talent can have on organisations. Considering over a third of young people lost their jobs in the pandemic, 2021 provides an ideal opportunity to bring young people back into work through learning schemes like apprenticeships.

The panel talked about what quality apprenticeships looks like, how businesses can measure the quality of an apprenticeship offer, the impact providing apprenticeships can have for your organisation and why ‘earn while you learn’ might just be the best way forwards to a faster economic recovery.

Proud members of IIP, CLM understand that high quality apprenticeship schemes are an ideal alternative to university and further education, suiting students leaving formal education and looking for employment which also provides them with on the job experience, qualifications, valuable mentor-ship and a salary.

CLM has been recognised for its commitment to investing in training, development and cultivating careers. With 5 generations making up the national workforce, we believe that offering learning scheme based employment could indeed be the route to a faster economic recovery and help to soften the impact Covid has had on employment among young people.

Furthermore, apprenticeships are not just for school leavers, they are a superb opportunity for businesses to up-skill or re-skill existing employees when restructuring the landscape of their business to fit the fast and evolving climate. The ROI is evident in staff retention, local employment, career progression, functional skills and a satisfied team who thrive in the workplace.

Ella Bryant, Business Administration Apprentice, who joined CLM in September 2019 says, ‘My apprenticeship at CLM has given me an amazing alternative to university as it has allowed me to learn valuable skills whilst on the job. CLM have provided me with extensive training throughout my apprenticeship and an opportunity to carve a career in a niche industry.

‘The team at CLM have always helped me with queries and supported me with my college work. My apprenticeship has also been a great way to learn a range of important skills such as confidence within my role’.

Ella went on to say, ‘I would urge anyone to take on an apprenticeship at CLM as they have consistently supported me through my learning and helped me in so many ways both inside work and with my college course.

‘Since day one with CLM, I have felt welcome, supported, valued and have genuinely loved my job. Starting an apprenticeship is a very daunting time especially if it is an industry that you have no knowledge about. However, this was not a hindrance and every member of the team has given me their time and has been eager to impart their knowledge to help me develop and learn new skills. I have grown and developed both personally and professionally with my apprenticeship, I honestly look forward to going to work each day and I am excited about a future career with CLM.’

At CLM, we agree that the businesses most likely to succeed in the current climate are not necessarily the longest established or the largest companies, but those businesses which are most adaptable and who employ the most agile and versatile team members. At CLM, our talent strategy is thriving, ensuring that training gaps are complete and to an exceptionally high standard, ensuring employee confidence and empowerment of skill set.

As 2021 speeds ahead, we are excited to be working side by side with Investors in People and exploring the apprenticeship journey further…there really has never been a more exciting time for apprentices in the market place and creating a successful and practical experience remains a priority for us at CLM.
